Cloud is optional. Treat it like a small suitcase, not a vault.
Local files do not require a Kingsoft account. Sync is useful across a phone and a PC. The free quota is small; paid plans advertise more. This site is an independent handbook and is not affiliated with Kingsoft Office Software Corporation Limited.
Stay local on purpose
School laptops and clinic PCs should not auto-upload. Turn off optional backup if the system drive is already tight. Cache still grows; see clear cache. Local Writer files do not require a Kingsoft account. That is a feature. Use it.
How to test sync
Install from official channels on each device. Sign in once. Upload a disposable DOCX. Open it on the phone. If that fails, it is an account or network problem, not Writer. Guide: sync devices. Never test with the only copy of a thesis.
Quota honesty
Free cloud is small — about 1 GB is a common figure in marketing copy, with paid plans advertising something near 20 GB. Those numbers move. If a Premium dialog appears because a folder of lecture recordings filled the suitcase, that is expected, not a bug. Confirm the current offer on wps.com.
Third-party drives
WPS can talk to other clouds on some builds. That does not make Kingsoft responsible for your Dropbox settings. Keep one source of truth. Conflict copies named “laptop 2” are how groups lose a week.
Install path, not a side door
Install only from wps.com/download or Microsoft Store 9NSGM705MQWC. A template pack EXE, a photo crack, or a “Writer full” from a video description is the malware product. See download and security.
