How-to

WPS is gone. The double-click still thinks it is here.

Uninstall removes the suite. Windows may keep a stub that offers the Store on every DOCX. Assign Word explicitly. This site is an independent handbook and is not affiliated with Kingsoft Office Software Corporation Limited.

Before you start

Do not reinstall WPS unless you want it back. This page is for leaving cleanly. Uninstall removes the suite. Windows may keep a stub that offers the Store on every DOCX.

Assign Word explicitly. If Word itself fails to launch, that is a Microsoft repair, not a leftover icon.

Steps

  1. Confirm WPS is uninstalled Settings, Apps. Remove leftover Kingsoft entries. Reboot if Windows asks.
  2. Set DOCX, XLSX, PPTX to Word or another suite Default apps. Pick Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or LibreOffice on purpose.
  3. Ignore a Store stub prompt If Windows still opens a WPS Store page, you are on a leftover association. Do not press Install unless you want WPS 9NSGM705MQWC back.
  4. Repair Microsoft 365 if Word itself fails That is an Office repair, not a WPS leftover. Use Microsoft’s repair tool.
  5. Test with a new file Create a DOCX from Word, close, double-click. If Notepad opens, associations still need work. See the associations guide.

If it still fails
